DGTrials Drift Challenge presented by Maxxis
Round 1, Champions 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Atlanta , GA – May 6, 2006 – While cute names and an enticing flyer might make the event seem playful and fun, the first round of DGTrials' Drift Challenge presented by Maxxis was all serious business. 35 competitors came from all corners of the South East to participate in the East Coast's first true regional amateur drifting championship series.

Things got off to a slow start while drivers acclimated themselves to a new venue, and a mid-afternoon course change due to failing sections of pavement added some extra difficulty to what was already a challenging course layout. The high speed kink followed by a long sweeper looked easy, but perfecting the line while maintaining speed proved difficult for all but a select few.

Adam Breton took top honors on the day, proving why he wears the #1 placard from 2005. In an extremely close fight, only three points separated the following three places. Daniel Willie just barely got past Erin Sanford to take third place, while Jon "Marty" Martin driving the R-Speed Miata managed to squeak by to pull away with the second place spot. Both Jon and Daniel will be receiving contingency prizes ($500 and $250, respectively) for running on Maxxis tires. Additionally, the top five finishers all received complimentary XM RoadyXT radios with one year of service, and five other units were raffled off amongst the remaining competitors.

Erik Jacobs, DGTrials President and CEO said, “We are glad that this first round of the Drift Challenge was so successful. We are looking forward to the remaining three rounds of the series, as well as to a continued and long standing relationship with our newest venue.”
